The three-time world champion still has 16 months left to run on his current contract worth around £30million a year.

And in a barb towards the German, Hamilton says he finds it funny to hear he was sniffing around his seat before committing himself to Ferrari.
He said: “I am made aware of who contacts the team, and that is down to a really great relationship I have with Toto.
“He is very open to me about who calls and it is interesting to hear who calls.
“Who is trying to either take my seat, or take the seat next door to me, and then to see – following those calls the manoeuvres that happen – such as Sebastian signing.

“I don’t know if everybody expected him to sign a three-year deal, but it doesn’t really change much for me.
“I plan to extend with the team, which we will do at some point in the second half of the season or towards the end of the year.
“I know Toto said that we will wait until the end of the season because that is what I like to do. There is no rush, and I still have another year, so we still have a lot of time.

“I made that very clear to the guys, and I am not trying to weigh up my options.
“If I was, I would call Toto and tell him I will do my due diligence and see what options there are for me. I have no plans to do that.
“It is good for Sebastian that he has signed at Ferrari.

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso says he will make a personal check on Honda’s progress in Japan before deciding if he stays with McLaren.
