In any ordinary job, when your employment cease you don’t any longer get paid (except any unpaid salary/wages and holiday entitlement). For MPs, it is different.
Before Ben Gummer receives his P45, at the end of the month he will receive his outstanding salary up until the day after polling day (despite officially being an candidate during purdah).
Ben will receive up to £33,530 in resettlement money.
Ben can choose to receive up to £50,000 to wind up his MP office.
Ben can claim 2 extra months accommodation costs while he sort himself out.
This is £3,837.50 for accommodation (£1918.75 x 2), up to £50,000 to close his MP office and resettlement money of £33,530 due to length of his post. This is £87,367.50 … not bad! Plus outstanding salary on top.
We will keep an eye on whether Ben is modest or greedy.
