Ben Gummer calls awarding a contract as an investment

The Great Eastern Mail Line franchise being awarded to Abellio (value of £1.4bn) which brings about new trains from a leasing company, has been boasted by wet-behind-the-ears politician Ben Gummer as an “investment”.

We must point out that he was part of a task force that persuaded Abellio to order new fleet of trains for its new rail franchise. This is all.

The franchise would have been awarded to some bidder (even if not Abellio) regardless if no improvements were made.

As Ben Gummer struggles to get traction against a new-likeable candidate standing against him, he has been boasting big figures such as £1.5bn… this is the £100m vanity bridge money he has allocated to the town and him treating the rail franchise as an investment he has gained for the town.

1,400 million is a big lie. The rail franchise would have been renewed regardless who was the MP.
